Big Annapurna Circuit

Classified as one of the nicest treks of the world, by the diversity of landscapes and the meeting of different ethnic groups. Panoramas are splendid (Thorong pass).

A good practice of hiking is required.


D 1 Arrival at Kathmandu, reception at the airport, and transfer at the hotel

D 2 Free Day (visits if required).

D 3 From Kathmandu to Besi (800m)
Bus from Kathmandu until Besi

D 4 From Besi to Bahundanda (1300m)
Walk across the rice fields of the Gurung villages, by way of Ngadi. ~ 5 hours of walk.

D 5 From Bahundanda to Chamje (1400m)
We see the first Tibetan houses then. We cross Marsyangdi and go up to Jagat before crossing forests to arrive at Chamje. ~ 5 hours of walk.

D 6 From Chamje to Dharapani (2000m)
Rigid climb towards Tal. The track arrives until Dharapani, gurung village of Tibetan influence. ~ 5 hours of walk.

D 7 From Dharapani to Chame (2700m)
The track goes up progressively until Khodo, then crosses a forest until Chame, important village of the region. ~ 5,5 hours of walk.

We pass by a nice forest then the valley become more large. Very nice view on chains of mountains. ~ 5 hours of walk.

D 9 From Pisang to Ghyaru (3400m)
Day of rest or acclimation for altitude: Taken up towards Pisang Peak : nice view. ~ 7 h hours of walk.

D 10 From Ghyaru to Manang (3400m)
Course dominates the valley and panorama is always splendid (Annapurna). We pass by the village of Ngawal before arriving at Manang ~ 5 hours of walk.

D 11 Rest at Manang

D 12 From Manang to Letdar (4200m)
Climb is regular in an area where vegetation becomes thinner ~ 5 hours of walk.

D 13 From Letdar to Phedi (4700m)
The trail goes down to cross a river and goes up at the foot of Thorong La. Be attentive to the mountain sickness. ~ 4 hours of walk.

D 14 From Phedi to Muktinath (3800m)
Morning departure for the climb (5 h) of Thorong La 5400m, then long descent until Muktinath, very important place of Nepali pilgrimage. ~ 9 – 11 hours of walk

D 15 From Muktinath to Jomsom (2700m)
We are near Mustang, but we go down in the valley of Kali Gandaki and join Jomsom. ~ 5 hours of walk.

Possibility of coming back to Pokhara by plane.
From Jomsom, the trekking change since few years because of the construction of a road from Tatopani to Muktinath. Some jeeps use it and make dusty clouds during the dry season. It is less peacefull than before, but landscapes are still the same and typical villages of the area make that trek very special.

The advantage of the road give us the opportunity to organize different itineraries (lenght, difficulties). It is interesting for those who walk slowly.


D 16 From Jomsom to Kalopani (2500m)
Easy route. Descent until Kalopani.On the way, nice villages as Marpha. ~ 5 hours of walk.

D 17 From Kalopani to Tatopani (1200m)
In the valley, we rediscover the cultivated lands. In Tatopani, you will be able to use sources of hot water. ~ 5,5 hours of walk.

D 18 From Tatopani to Ghorepani (2750m)
We leave the Kali Gandaki for long day : some climbs are rigid. Crossing of villages, cultures and forest. ~ 7 hours of walk.

D 19 From Ghorepani to Pokhara.
Possibility in the morning to go up at Poon Hill (3200m) to attend the sunrise : splendid panorama. Then, long descent towards Birethanti, and finally, bus or taxi for Pokhara. ~ 6 hours of walk. Night at the hotel.

D 20 From Pokhara to Kathmandu.
Return to Kathmandu by bus (or plane if required).

D 21 Free Day (visits if required).

D 22 Transfer to the airport of Kathmandu.
